Režast bež-siv kvader, vsebuje gibko disketo z igrami - Wizard of Wor. [ENG]: The Commodore 1541 is a floppy disk drive developed by Commodore International for the Commodore 64, enabling users to load games and programs from 5.25'' disks rather than the more common audio cassettes. Given its complexity—functioning almost as a standalone computer—the 1541 would cost around €1000 today. Floppy drives were prohibitively expensive at the time, causing many users to rely on tapes for loading their software. This was particularly true in Europe and Slovenia, where floppy disks were not widely available, unlike in the US. This issue wasn’t exclusive to Commodore users; young Atari ST owners also faced difficulties. Despite the built-in Atari floppy drive, many found it of little use, as their friends primarily exchanged games on tapes. This frustration led some to sell their powerful Atari machines without fully exploring their potential. Interestingly, the Commodore 64 manual included instructions for the floppy drive, even though the drive itself was sold separately at a significantly higher cost. The drive’s complexity is evident from its inclusion of a MOS 6502 microprocessor and an onboard disk operating system, CBM DOS 2.6. In the US, third-party clones of the 1541 were common, though outside of the US, the drive was less popular. Nevertheless, the 1541 became the first disk drive to achieve widespread use in the home.

Commodore 1541
Front view of the second-most common version of the Commodore 1541 disk drive, with open disk slot. This version uses a Newtronics drive mechanism, and the rotating lever is used to engage the drive mechanism with the disk (i.e. to engage the hub clamp and load the disk heads) and to prevent removal of the disk while the mechanism is mechanically engaged.
