[ENG]: In the early 1980s, the home computer market was bustling with competition from well-established brands like Commodore, Spectrum, and Atari. It was during this time that Sinclair Research introduced the Sinclair QL (Quantum Leap). Positioned as a high-end, powerful alternative to the ZX Spectrum, the Sinclair QL was marketed as a machine capable of rivalling even the IBM PC. At its core, the QL featured a Motorola 68008 processor running at 7.5 MHz, paired with 128 KiB of RAM. This combination promised significant computational power, setting it apart from many of its contemporaries. One of the standout features of the Sinclair QL was its operating system, QDOS, which introduced several functionalities that would later be seen in Windows operating systems. Remarkably ahead of its time, QDOS offered multitasking capabilities and a graphical user interface that predated many features of later popular systems. Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux, was notably influenced by the QL, having owned one during its heyday. Despite these advanced features and its potential, the Sinclair QL struggled to achieve commercial success. Issues with early models and strong competition from other brands hindered its market penetration. The Sinclair QL boasted a distinctive design that set it apart from other home computers of the era. Encased in a sleek, black housing, the QL exuded a professional and futuristic appearance. The keyboard featured an unusual layout with small, flat keys that were slightly recessed into the casing, providing a unique typing experience. The design was minimalistic yet functional, with a built-in microdrive storage system replacing the traditional floppy drives. This innovative but ultimately unreliable storage solution was one of the factors contributing to its commercial challenges. Despite its shortcomings, the Sinclair QL remains a notable piece of computing history, remembered for its ambitious design and advanced features.
