Opis:
Lepo ohranjen, v ohišju. Vidna nalepka z napisom ULTIMAG, Certified Zero Defect at 1600 BPI and 6250 CPI. Graham magnetics. [ENG]: Magnetic tape was a prevalent storage medium for computers from the 1950s through the 1980s. Before its widespread use, punched cards and paper tape were the primary methods for data storage and processing. These earlier technologies were limited in capacity and cumbersome in handling, prompting the shift to magnetic tape. Following the era of magnetic tape, hard disk drives and solid-state drives became the dominant storage solutions due to their increased speed, capacity, and reliability. Magnetic tapes were typically housed in a protective plastic reel, which had to be removed before the tape could be inserted into a tape drive. The tape itself was a thin strip of magnetic material coated on a plastic film, usually half an inch wide and wound around the reel. The reel could hold up to 2,400 feet of tape, allowing for substantial data storage compared to previous methods. To use a magnetic tape, an operator would mount the reel onto a tape drive and thread the end of the tape through a series of guides and onto a take-up reel. This process required careful handling to avoid damaging the tape. Once loaded, the tape drive would read or write data sequentially, making magnetic tape ideal for large, linear data storage tasks such as backups and archiving.
